holidaying @ Hermanus

Holidaying @ Hermanus is always relaxing.  Craig switches into holiday mode, which means we get to benefit from his culinary skills (yup, first morning the kids had flapjackets!)  He even provided us with a gourmet fillet meal, including avo garnish.  That is pretty impressive, especially considering he hates avo!

Here is the sesame seed sensation…

mm-mmmm-mmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

A visit to Kirsten and Adam’s reception venue was our official Saturday activity, to discuss decor, menus etc.  Micah and I went along, while Craig and the kids did a little shopping.

Kiera learnt how to play chess, thanks to her great teacher, (a real teacher too!) Yvonne.  Grandpa got an extra lesson, too.  Kiera explained some of her strategy to me … “and then I moved the prawn across…”

The kids had fun at the plant sale, chasing each other around the paths…

and helping load plants into granny’s car.  Sam was particularly helpful… “I help you, man! Man! Man!  I help you!  Manny! I help you!”

Painting their Easter gift from granny – duck money boxes – was Monday morning’s activity…

and Monday afternoon’s was an intro to real water colours (more on that in this post)…

We got more gourmet a la Craig…

Our last night together was enjoyed at the local Onrus pizza place, outside by fairy light!  Mmmm-mmm!

And while Craig kept us all up-to-date, the kids played at monkeys-up-a-tree.

Of course, this time away was all the more special for the fun Easter time we had together, enjoying our passover meal; making resurrection cookies; searching for and making up our wordless book and generally celebrating that Jesus is Risen!  Because of Him we can be certain of our hope!

And now we are home.  Back to hard work and mundane meals!

Resurrection Sunday Search

After a church service for the kids (Craig and I both ended up in the Sunday school and “cry” room respectively, meaning we didn’t get to hear the sermon) and granny and grandpa, we headed home for a yummy light lunch, followed by a good sleep for all the kids (and Craig!)  Then… hunting time!

First, we began our hunt with the first part of our Wordless Book poem.

Then the search was on for our first piece of felt – yellow.

Back again for more of the poem – and the great exchange – one piece of felt for one piece of chocolate!

More searching

2009_04_12

more poetry; more clues; more actions and more chocolate!

2009_04_121

Finally, it’s over – with one wordless book to tell others about Jesus; five mini chocs to chomp with glee and one sunny afternoon to relax with family.

resurrection cookie bake

As mentioned before, we’ve been baking resurrection cookies for the past few years as a tangible and fun (not to mention yummy!) way to remember Christ’s death and resurrection.  After an amazing dinner cooked by my sweet man, we …

pounded the nuts

IMG_7270

beat egg whites

IMG_7273

drew pictures while we waited for the beating process to create stiff peaks (ow, my poor arms).  All the while, dad read to us from the bible

IMG_7275

vinegar doesn’t taste so great – I wonder why they gave it to Jesus?  That wasn’t very nice.

IMG_7284

while some licked fingers, another servant-hearted washed dishes (did you know he is the official and self-appointed dishwasher – he’s pretty good too!)

THE NEXT MORNING…

unsealing the tomb

opening it up

mmmm – hollow, yummy resurrection cookies!

we can celebrate! Jesus is Risen!
